Food Justice and Farming Internship 2022

Deadline: N/A

Description: Our summer internship program is a unique and dynamic work experience. Interns will have hands- on learning opportunities to develop skills in sustainable agriculture techniques such as organic and low-till growing. Learning how to grow your own food is critical work that can be challenging and complicated, but also fun and highly rewarding. Through the PFWC Food Justice and Farming Internship you will learn every step of the growing process, from bed preparation to harvest. Beyond farm work, you will learn the principles of food justice through a series of readings, workshops, and discussions. Interns will also be expected to have a central role in curriculum development, design and construction projects, social media and communications, and engaging peers in our work. A successful internship participant will develop leadership skills including public speaking, project management, collaboration, critical thinking, and goal-setting. PFWC consists of a small but dedicated staff and summer interns should expect to be a part of our core team. Please be ready to bring your all!

No farming experience is necessary, but applicants need to be excited to learn with an awareness that farming is physically demanding. Interns are expected to arrive on time to scheduled shifts and prepared to work in any weather with the supplies they need for the day. Farm work requires us to be on our feet, bending over or kneeling for much of the day. We will never ask you to do a job you cannot do, but we will ask that you push yourself. We will provide all necessary training and will support your development as a student farmer and leader. This is an opportunity to continuously learn, and we ask that you be receptive to feedback and guidance.
