NYC Summer Internship Working for a Tech/Transportation Start-Up

The Company

OurBus, an intercity bus startup, is looking for Interns in NY this summer!

OurBus is disrupting an aging charter and bus transportation industry through smart network planning, dynamic pricing, and a state-of-the-art technology platform. They’re a two-sided marketplace, working with both transportation companies and the traveling general public. They’ve had coverage in the NY Times, Yahoo! News, and more. The Internship

OurBus will be launching an inaugural summer intern program with an initial cohort of 3-4 students. These students will be a mix of both undergraduate and graduate students.

The cohort will work full-time for 8-10 weeks and paid an hourly salary starting from $15/hour (based on experience). There will be ample opportunities to work alongside senior management, participate in weekly happy hours, bi-weekly team lunches, networking events, and more.

The program is set to run from May 28th through August 9th and can be flexible based on school schedule. The opportunity also exists to continue interning through the school year.

Responsibilities:

You’ll be hitting the ground running during your first week at OurBus with a comprehensive training program to understand the ins and outs of a thriving transportation startup. This will include learning about route planning, operations, logistics, customer service, and marketing.

Then, based on your expertise and company need, you’ll be tasked with projects that will have a material impact on the company. Duties may include:

  • Process improvement and research for new routes
  • Monitoring of sales and ridership data
  • Plan, market, and launch new routes
  • Business outreach and communication with partners
  • Experimenting with new types of vehicles, routes and services

Separately, each intern will be working on an individual research project which will be presented to management at the end of the internship program.

What are they looking for:

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree
  • Passion for buses, transportation, travel, and/or the customer experience (Ideally all of the above)
  • Prior internship or work experience (preferably in the industry)
  • Detail-oriented, proactive interns that are able to work with minimal supervision
  • Occasionally work weekends as needed (paid)
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and independent motivation
  • Analytical background is a plus
