2017 Alumni Weekend with Urban Studies
Brunch and gathering:
10:30AM - 12:30PM
(Note: Our original plan for a tour following the brunch has been cancelled.)
Join us for our annual Urban Studies Alumni Brunch. We always look forward to seeing you during the festivities of the weekend and to toast your anniversary! Meet up with urban studies alums from your class and alums from other years to expand your urban studies network!
To facilitate that networking, we have asked 1992 alum Anthony Crowell to talk about his experiences as Counselor to NY City Mayor Michael Bloomberg from 2001-2012 and about his current efforts in transforming the curriculum as Dean and President of New York Law School. Anthony received his law degree from George Washington, and worked for the International City and County Management Association before moving to New York City’s law department. When 9-11 hit, Anthony had the responsibility of dealing with victim families and Bloomberg brought him into the Mayor’s Office as special counsel. He soon became Counselor to the Mayor and oversaw from a legal vantage point the ambitious work of the Bloomberg Administration in so many different arenas, from development to climate change. Now, at the New York Law School, Anthony is implementing an innovative, practice-based pedagogy drawing from his experience at Penn Urban Studies, taking advantage of the city in the education of law school students.
