Event

Are cities in crisis? What constitutes a "crisis"? What are the most pressing crises facing cities of the past, present, future?

Join the Urban Studies Undergraduate Advisory Board as we explore these questions and more in our our spring dinner series, "Cities in Crisis"! These events are intimate, informal discussions with professors, practitioners, and students who are passionate about cities and their challenges. Upcoming topics include governance, housing, and the concept of "deviance" in the city.

For our first event, we'll be joined by Ariel Ben-Amos, who is a transportation planner at the Philadelphia Water Department and a lecturer in the Urban Studies Program. (Even better: he is a Philly native, and an alum of URBS as well as PennDesign!) He'll be making the case that we are living in a time of extended crisis in governance, which has led to our inability to pass lasting transportation legislation, among other issues.

The event will be Monday, March 18 at 5pm in the URBS seminar room (McNeil 130). Dinner will be provided! RSVP here.
